Germany plans investment in food industries

German firms are planning to invest in Iran's food industries sector, announced the secretary of Iran Meat Products Companies Consortium. Majid Aflaki further said that foreign investors, including the Germans, are studying the conditions for resuming their activities in Iran. In expert-level meetings, foreign companies expressed the framework of their cooperation with Iran, Aflaki added. Holding international exhibitions will pave the ground for improving foreign investment and joint activities, he said adding that Halal Food Products Exhibition will be held in Tehran on October 17-20. "The exhibition seeks to develop Iran's food industry which is operating at less than 50 percent of its capacity," the official said. Currently, over 170 firms are involved in the meat industry across the country producing 500,000 tons of meat products annually, Aflaki said. Annual per capita meat products consumption for Iranians is 5.5 kilograms, while the figure for Turkish and Americans is 28 kg and 68 kg, respectively, he concluded.
